Pope County Schools

Pope County is located in Southern Illinois with its county seat in Golconda. As of 2000, the population was 4,413 people, making it one of the smallest counties in Illinois. But the people who live here will tell you it is the most beautiful county in this state. During rainy season, the hilly geography makes elegant waterfalls of various sizes and heights. Dixon Springs State Park is one of many state parks in the Illinois Shawnee Hills, and it is part of the Shawnee National Forest. This forest is bordered to the south and east by the Ohio River, which marks the state's border with Kentucky. Pope County is home to the Pope County Pirates, the mascot for the elementary and high school. Education is of the utmost importance to the citizens of this county and everyone supports the efforts of the teachers as well as the administration. For its small town feel and warm and welcoming schools, Pope County is a fantastic place to call home.
