Putnam County Schools

Putnam County is one of the smallest counties in Illinois with its county seat in Hennepin. The county was formed in 1825 out of Fulton County and is named after Israel Putnam, who was a general in the American Revolution. Putnam County's courthouse in Hennepin is the oldest courthouse currently in use in Illinois. Rich in history, the building has been maintained in its original form, a major accomplishment considering it was built in 1839. Putnam County High School is the "Home of the Panthers" and the education here is excellent despite the size of the county. Small class sizes allow a strong interaction between students and teachers. The students here prove to be excellent, both in school and out of school because of the afterschool programs that Putman has to offer. Perfect for its small-town charm and appeal, Putnam County is a wonderful place to live, learn and grow.
