Between elementary and high school is middle school, also known as junior high school; it spans grades 5-8 in Illinois (around ages 10-14). Middle school is quite unlike elementary school, where most subjects are taught by one teacher. In middle school students are required to enroll in class schedules where they take classes from several different teachers. Aside from the core subjects, some students also start taking foreign language, advanced math and science classes, and other courses for high school credit. Illinois middle-level schools are committed to providing their students with the knowledge and tools that will help them succeed in high school and later on in life.
